Keeping time for Madras

 P.Orr and Sons, timekeepers to Madras, was a business with a long history entwined with the commercial development of South India in the 19th and 20th Centuries. But few today remember that, in its day, P.Orr's was more than the leading watch and clock shop in South India; that it was the South's leading silversmiths, goldsmiths and jewellers, its clientele anyone who was anybody in South India, from Governors to Zamindars to those just plain rich or powerful.
