American Flyer S-Gauge New York, New Haven & Hartford Boxcar c.1941

A S-Gauge tinplate American Flyer boxcar in very good condition.

Price:  £250

Founded in 1907, American Flyer first got into the model railroad market with clockwork (non-electric) O Gauge trains, a cheaper alternative to its competitors at the time. They later added electric locomotives, and standard gauge tracks (called 'wide' by American Flyer). The company was bought by A.C. Gilbert, inventor of Erector toys, in 1938, and introduced S Gauge trains. But competition from incompatible Lionel O Gauge trains drove American Flyer out of business by the 1960s.
